Answer
Freshman Year in my school:
-All students take english 9. In this class we read books like Of Mice and Men, To Kill A Mockingbird, The House On Mango Street, Farenheight 451, and Romeo and Juliet. We also do some vocabulary and study poetry and short stories. These all have different levels, basically the low level, normal, and honors.
-Normal level students take physical science, where they learn about energy, chemistry, and basically physical science. Honors students take Into to Chemistry and Physics, where the 1st half of the year they learn Chemistry and the 2nd half they learn Physics, but each are not real Chem and Physics classes, only an intro.
-All students take Global Civilizations, where they learn about the history of the world since the beggining of time up to the present. Major topics include: Ancient Civilizations, Ancient Greece and Rome, Renaissance, Major wars like the world wars, etc. These all have different levels, basically the low level, normal, and honors.
-The most complicated one to explain is math. The normal intellegence normal motivated student would take Algebra 1. The normal intellegence highly motivated student would take Algebra 1 Honors. The intellegent normally motivated student would take Geometry. The intellegent highly motivated student would take Geometry Honors. Some kids are really ahead and take Algebra 2 honors in 9th grade. Some kids take Algebra 2 as an elective along with Geometry. Both cases where a 9th grader takes Algebra 2 is rare.
-Students have a choice of a forgien language, but this counts as an elective. The options are Spanish, French, Italian, and Latin. For 1st and 2nd year of the language, they don't offer Honors at our school.
-We use a lot of Holt or HRW books which have websites. I know they have an Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, The Human Legacy (used for Global Civilizations), Physical Science, and Spanish/French 1,2,3, and 4 books, which covers most of the courses offered. Besides that we use different kinds of textbooks for all the different levels. If you look up the course you can probably find an online website that sells the book. Honors classes tend to use old textbooks while normal levels get the new edition of HRW ones.
Hope I could help!

what are books to read for honors 9th grade lit?
*hey(((:*
im going to get ahead on some school work and im takin honors lit. next year ,so i need a few books. got any?

Answer
The books you need to read for your honors class are going to be different (probably) then the books other people read in their 9th grade honor english class because schools usually choose different books.
When I was in 9th grade honors we had to read "Lord of the Flies", "Great Expectations", and "Romeo and Juliet". There were others ones that I can't remember right now.
I was in Honors and AP throughout all of my time in high school. Some other books I read in other grades that you might like are "A Scarlett Letter", "Grapes of Wrath", "A Prayer for Owen Meany", "The Things They Carried", and "Barn Burning" to name a few.
