What are some good books in Public Domain even better if available as LibriVox recording?

Answer
The basic rule of thumb is anything written before 1920 is in the US public domain. Other countries have their own laws.
Librivox recordings are hit & miss. Some are poorly read, so try getting the poorly read ones at the public library instead.
If unavailable try getting them via inter-library loan.
And of course you can get copyrighted audio books out of the library, including stuff in the public domain read by really great readers, for instance: Edgar Allan Poe read by Boris Karloff, Vincent Price & Basil Rathbone - it's awesome!

"Dantes Inferno" by you-know-who
"The Prince" by Machiavelli - great essay on how the world really works
Aesops Fables - I know this is available at Librivox and it's great!
"The Count of Monte Cristo" & "The 3 Musketeers" by Alexandre Dumas
Shakespeare's Plays (actually not difficult to follow in an audio only version if well read)
"Around the World in 80 Days" "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne
"War of the Worlds" "First Men on the Moon" "The Time Machine" by H G Wells
"Candide" by Voltaire
"Plutarchs Lives of the Noble Greeks & Romans" by you-know-who
"Alice in Wonderland" & "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carrol - not just for kids!
Sherlock Holmes novels & stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
"Tom Sawyer" "Huckleberry Finn" "Life on the Mississippi" "The Innocents Abroad" by Mark Twain
"Lord Jim" by Joseph Conrad
Short stories by Mark Twain, O Henry, Robert Louis Stevenson, Edgar Allan Poe.

Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it
