Good place to stay in New York?

Ellesse

I'm planning on booking a holiday to New York, specifically Manhattan. Do you know any hotels that aren't hugely expensive but still relatively comfy. Please don't just answer "No".
My limit is probably around $250-300.

Answer
In 2.5 years as you mentioned in your other question? The rates today will not be the same in 2.5 years, but there are cheaper times of the year to visit such as January and February. Holidays, summer and late spring, early fall will always cost more. Hotels in 2011 started at around $150/night for something halfway decent and more for Times Square. It's only January, so we'll see what 2012 brings, but prices will be the same or more. Describe "hugely expensive". In NYC that can mean $3000 a night or $100/night for some people. Maybe this site will help you figure things out since you've got years to plan: http://www.nyctouristcenter.com

Answer
okay, the best you can do is buy the prep books for the shsat. I seriously dont recommend getting a tutor or going to prep classes; they are a waste of time and usually dont help. The books can at least help if you really put your heart into it and it gives yougreat test taking strategies. So far, the best books are:
Kaplan-Great for everything with 2 full-length tests, especially math but unfortenetly has a few typos( the 6th edition is coming out in May if you don't want the 5th edition)
Barron's-Also a great book; it has 4 half-length tests and 3 full- length test with more focus on English
Princeton Review(Cracking the New York City Specialized High School Admissions Test)-It only has one test but it has great strategies for solving problems and lots of ways to figure out a problem without actually doing it( they dont print this book anymore so its very expensive-I found a website with a $14 one and wanted to know if this is the legit book heres the website-http://www.campustech.com/item/McMillan+Publishing/MCMILLAN+PUBL./100910109
Arco(sometimes this book appears to be published by Peterson's)- this is a book with 10 half- length test- it is really only for practice and i do not recommend just getting this book alone
Hope you get into the high school you want to!!!!!!!!! I'm taking the test this October also and hope to get into Stuy!
