If yes what did u think of it????????
Answer
Actually the name of the book is SEVEN DEADLY WONDERS and I bought it the day it came out. Matthew Reilly is the greatest writer of thrillers that I have read in over more the 50 years. I have read everything he has written. From his new release of his first book Contest up to and including this last one. He is in the process of finishing the movie version of Contest, then he and George Clooney will be working on the movie version of ICE STATION. By now in Australia they have released his animated film from Disney called Hovercar Racer. You can find all you want about him on his website. Just type Matthew Reilly onto your search engine. If you like these types of books try Jack DuBrul also.
For Mr. Reilly's books my favorite is TEMPLE.

What does it take to create a book?

I think I want to create a book or even a series someday so I'd like to know what it takes to create and publish a book. What supplies do I need and do I really have to go through a publisher? If I did go through a publisher how much money would they get out of it?
Answer
You have asked a lot of questions. First of all, all you need is a word processor and a place to work. Set yourself up specific hours to write every single day. Learn to become a disciplined author.
Yes in one way or another you have to go through a publisher. Let me explain how the money works with traditional publishing.
The cost of your book is figured at the price of producing the book times 6. Let's say that comes to 24.95. If you have a good agent who has worked a good contract for you, they will offer you an advance of the proceeds of 50% of the sales of your first book run. An average book run for a new author today is around 15,000 books. So they would offer you 2.49 x 7500 or 18,675. 15% of that goes to the agent so you would end up with about 15,875. Once all 7500 copies are sold, you start earning 2.49 less 15% for the rest of the run. Sounds great right?
Well as a new author, it is highly unlikely your publisher is going to do very much to promote your book. Most first time authors end up plowing most of their advance into a marketing firm to help them promote and sell the book. If you sell less than 7,500 you may have to refund money to your publisher. If your books end up on the bargain table at your local bookstore selling for 6.95, you make ZERO in royalties. That is the cold hard truth.
If you go to my profile you will find many starred Q and A regarding writing and publishing. Print a bunch out and study them. Many novice authors are making their own books from them to study. If you add me as a fan, you will get updates when I add more. It helps because you don't have to sort through Resolved Questions.
Self publising is useless. Unless books are on shelves in stores, they will not sell. As an experiment I just went to Lulu and looked at one of the Featured Books of the week. I checked with Ingram - the largest book distributor in the country to see how well that book is doing. It sold 0 books last week and 0 books this week. They have 1 book on order and sold 5 last year. And that is a FEATURED book. Lulu is a black hole. You cannot sell books through them.
Hope that helped. Pax - C
