I'm looking for a nonfictional or fictional book by an African-American author for an English project. I'm looking for something special, a book you can't put down and is not too hard to understand.

Any book by Jacqueline Woodson is very very good. My FAVORITE is If You Come Softly. I would definitely say I couldn't put it down. :)

Here are just a few female African American "Best selling" authors. Terry O'Neal, she has written "Good Morn'n Glory", "Sweet Lavender", "In A World of my Own. She is considered one of the top 100 in her class as writer "divas". Also Alice Walker,BeBe Moore Campbell, Bernice L. McFadden, Gloria Naylor, Iyanla Vanzant, Jada Pinkett Smith, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Maria Golden,Mary B. Morrison,Maya Angelo. These are just a few, there quite alot more.
