Don't tell me about Harry Potter, Twilight, Eragon, or other series. I want to know about books that stand alone and are GREAT!
Answer
I really love Sonya Hartnett's books. She's an Australian author who apparently isn't that well known in the U.S. She writes mostly YA fiction and her books are really good. A few of her books that I've read are:
Sleeping Dogs
Surrender
Wilful Blue
What The Birds See
Thursday's Child
The above are all good but my favorite is Sleeping Dogs. It's about a family (father, mother, five children) who own a caravan park in rural Australia. An artist comes to stay at their park and finds the family interesting and mysterious, especially the beautiful oldest daughter. He sets out to discover their "secret" and sets off a chain of events that end in a devastating manner. It's a really good book and I highly recommend it. Happy reading to you! :-)

ThatAwkwar
ok so im only a teen and i realllly love to write but i don`t know how to get a publisher i mean i got a lot of great ideas on books and i halfway finished with most of my books? so my question is can kids publish books?
Answer
Most certainly...
Christopher Paolini who wrote Eragon,Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance was only a very young teen when Eragon was first published. And he's not the only one. I saw a list that I can't seem to find anywhere now and there was a good dozen or more succesfully published teens, some of them were best-sellers.... from memory I think the youngest person to have a succesfully published story was 12 years old, that was last time I checked, could've changed by now.
If you have the will and motivation it can certainly be done... money always helps as well as a lot of the publishing companies require solicited manuscripts before they accept your submission. Some reputable and smaller compaines will accept anything, and some have intake periods and other times they will completely ignore your novel submission.
Basically do a little research to find out which publishing compaines are open for unsolicited material submission and also that would publish books in your stories catergory (fantasy, fiction etc.)
First and foremost get at least 50% of your novel completed and roughly revised before considering sending it on to an agent to gain solicited rights. If you don't want to worry about deadlines and anything of the sort in case your story idea takes of and a publisher picks you up and wants the book ready for publishing within a month then get the entire story completed and revised before submitting.
Enjoy the writing process for the time-being, once you've completed and are happy with the entirety of your story then I would consider agents and publishers.
