Baby boy #
My son's school as implemented a reading goal for all the students. They are encouraged to read 25 chapter books by the end of the school year. Depending on the length and difficultly of the book they may count as more than one book.
Right now my son is 3/4 the way through the third Harry Potter book and he does understand what he's reading because I will ask him about what he's read and he's able to tell me.
So basically my question is if he does read through all 7 Harry Potter books, what does he go on to next? I mean it would have to be something on the same level as HP or slightly more difficult. I wouldn't make much sense to than move on the something on an easier reading level, right?
Answer
I agree with Zorro. Chronicle of Narnia are fantastic for his age group! They are fantasy novels with beautiful story lines and life lessons woven through out. Also, if he is not easily scared, R.L. Steins "Goosebumps" series is wonderful! My dad used to read me a chapter a night when i was about 7-10 years old. I LOVED IT! I will do the same for my daughter when she reaches that age.
Also, all the Roald Dahl classics!!! : Matilda, The Witches, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc.
Your son is at a very fun age for cultivating a love for reading. Definitely read him the Harry Potter's before he sees the movies if at all possible. Good Luck!
