Quitting smoking. ?

Rodger M

I've been looking to quit for a while now and i have tried, cold turkey and patches. but i wasn't able to. I read of a book which helps you through it. but i don't know whether to get it or not. Anybody read the book?
Thanks.

Answer
you dont need a book to help you quit, what are you gunna use it for? to smash your packs with when you buy one?

the willpower and determination ultimately comes from you, the book can tell you this and that, but when its all said and done, its YOU who does it. its your goal, your accomplishment, you ambition. your choice, and i know you can do it and i know you can quit. think of how horribly dangerous they are, think of all the people who have died from it, gotten cancer from it, think of the 3000 + chemicals used to make it, including arsenic, which is a deadly rat poison.... think about that everytime you look at one, and you will begin to be disgusted by them... think of how they make your hands look, think of how it makes you smell afterwards, think of the taste of food, because it will taste a lot better when you quit, think of the black slime in your lungs, and your family, think of how youd feel if you saw a little kid smoking..

it has to come from you to quit. you just need to have the willpower to throw it everytime you put one in your hands. believe me...

Books about people quitting smoking?

Because I quit smoking, I'm interested in reading about people who have quit smoking or who are struggling with withdrawal, etc. The only piece of classic literature I can find on this topic is Zeno's Conscience, which I'll be reading soon. Can you suggest another novel? I don't want self-help books, just fiction or literature.

Answer
Not a novel, but the Raymond Carver short story 'Bicycles, Muscles, Cigarets' [sic] might be of interest.

'The Plastic Tomato Cutter' by Michael Curtin features a smoking cessation group.

Read 'Trainspotting' by Irvine Welsh and 'Homeboy' by Seth Morgan for vivid descriptions of heroin withdrawal. There's always someone worse off!
