I haven't read any of Dean Koontz, but I want to start. What are the best (and scariest) of his books?
Answer
Ah, Dean Koontz. I really used to like his writing, but after too many abortive endings I could stand no more. Despite that, he had a few good ones:
Odd Thomas and Forever Odd. These are the first two books in his series about a man that can see ghosts. Unfortunately, the books in the series after these two get a bit more out there with a lot of things happening without rhyme or reason. Read the rest of the series if you want, but don't expect them to be better than the first two by a long shot.
The Door to December and Watchers also deserve mentions. From the Corner of His Eye wasn't too shabby either, in that it was a nice departure from Koontz's typical plot style. Scariest or most disturbing book of his that I read would be The Bad Place.
His books aren't exactly 'horror' in my opinion, because once you understand how Koontz does things it's extremely easy to predict how the rest of the story will pan out. The man loves his happy endings; he's just not dedicated to the horror genre.

Answer
Dean Koontz has written quite a number of books (I count at least 94 or 95, including fiction, non-fiction, children's plus). This site http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/k/dean-r-koontz/ has a list of his books, some which were written under a pen name. Fantastic Fiction is a great site to check when you want to know a fiction author's list of works or the order in which a series was written.
Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Koontz_bibliography also has a list of his works.
