I've found the book "Children Learning Reading" to be very effective for teaching my 3 year old reading skills (I'm a parent, by the way). The reason for that is that it uses phonics to teach reading -- a powerful method that connects the sound of words with its respective meaning.
Studies into early childhood development have shown that it's also the most natural way in which kids learn to read.
From the results I've seen, to the way I've been able to adapt those methods to my own teaching style, I feel that parents & teachers would do well to start with this book as the foundation for advanced work. It's a practical approach for kids between the ages of 3 and 5.

Child Development Books for 3-year-old?
Kissy
Looking for recommendations on a good child development book / on how to be a good mom to a 3-year-old who's driving me crazy! Unique problem, I know! ;)
He's really intelligent for his age, and I think that's part of our problem. He talks really well, so I often forget how old he really is emotionally.
I'm running into behavioral issues because he doesn't respond to discipline - he puts himself in time out. I feel like I have tried everything - even resorting to putting him in time out in the bathroom. Ha, ha.
Please help! - Even if you don't have a book suggestion advice would be helpful.

Have you looked at the tag jr yet? It is for ages 2-4. Helps them learn to read and has a lot book choices. They even have a special edition toy story one if he likes toy story. I'm sure he would love it. Also Leapfrog has these fridge magnets that tell you the pronunciation of the letter and you can spell 3 letter words as well.
