Yes. I have actually won four books from that site. Just friday I received my 1st copy ever and am looking forward to receiving the rest of my books. so if you're asking if people actually win free books, yes they do!

I was entering some contests for book giveaways and I was just wondering if the contests were actually random? I seen some people saying that they base the giveaways based on what books are on your shelf and how many reviews you have given, and I seen others saying that that didn't matter at all.

I was just wanting some insight, thanks!

They disclose on the side of the contest page how they pick the winners. I'm not sure exactly how the algorithm works, but yes it takes into account reviews, previous contests you've entered, books on your shelves and randomness.
I've won one book. It was a journal for teachers of English as a Second Language.
