Your favorite Haruki Murakami book?

I have always been intrigued by the acclaim he has received, yet I've never read any of his works before. I can't decide which book to start out with, so what would your recommendation be? (It'd be helpful if you could include a brief explanation as to why you chose that book as your favorite/recommendation).

Answer
The first I read was Wild Sheep Chase, and I went on the read all his other books on the strength of that. Wild Sheep Chase is one of his first books. It is quite short and is a good example of his earlier surreal, humurous style.

Anyone read Haruki Murakami books?

I love his works so much. How do you feel about his books and about him?

Answer
I have :)
He's a great author, one of my absolute favorites. I just adore his style - quirky, ironic and at times very poetic and descriptive. He's got great ides that never really make much sense; he never gives you a full explanation but by the end of the novel you still have a general idea what happened and want to read more. My favorites would have to be Kafka on the Shore and The Wind-up Bird Chronicle.
