What Is The Best Book On C++?

Q. What is the best book to get a THOROUGH understanding and fluency of C++?

Answer
The traditional authority for C++ books is the ACCU book reviews. Go to accu.org, click on the Book Reviews, then search for C++. The "Highly recommended" be be shown at the top.

The "C++ In-Depth Box Set" was a good deal; the list price is about $145. It is apparently out of print now and is now worth $500 or more, used. I don't know if there is a newer version of the collection; look for it when the new C++ standard is finally final.

Answer
Medium to Advanced c++ book?

First of all, may I suggest you do not buy a book from B&B since their prices are through the roof. Now about your question I will seriously recommend the following

c++ primer
ISBN 0201824701

Check www.half.com you might be able to get this one for under $20

This is not and introductory book as it cover many of the advanced features of c++ from the start. If you desire to expand your knowledge of c++ I also recommend:

The C++ Standard Library: A Tutorial and Reference
ISBN 0201379260

A little more than 30 bucks, but well worth the price. Hope that helps.
