Urban planning with a masters in statistics?
Ryan J
I am currently working on my masters in statistics and have found I have a great interest in city growth patterns and demographic trends and using statistical analysis to spur growth. I don't want to start any new programs, but was wondering what kind of options would be available after completion of a masters in statistics program to someone who has an interest in city growth patterns and effective sustainable growth for metro areas with that background. Thanks!

Great question -
Bert Sperling, from www.bestplaces.net, has a few books out (e.g., Best Places to Raise a Family) and a number of different reports online. I'm not sure if he's hiring but you should ask him what he would suggest. He is a stats expert.
Many of the big magazines have Top 10 Lists, including Forbes. If you want to work for one of those, you could try searching online for "Top 10..." of whatever subject you are most interested in - "Sustainable Communities", "Green Urban Areas", etc.
In Canada, the Federal Government has Statistics Canada.
In the USA, try Fedstats.gov, which lists Federal Agencies with Statistical Programs (link below).
I'm an avid urban planner, so if you have more questions, feel free to drop me a line. My website is also below.
