What are some good children's books for a 4-6 year old?

I would prefer some options with pictures. We have a couple of the How Does a Dinosour....?
and we have the book, the title escapes me right now about the two rabbits and the they show each other how much they love each other and we have Dr. Seuss. Some i would love to get if there is such a thing is a book about knights. the boys love hearing about soldiers and kings with with swords. Nothing too cutsey/ girly but would love some books that little boys would just love.

Answer
it really depends on the development of the boys. Also do they want to read or look at cool artwork??

My 6 yr old love Harry Potter, partly because 2 of his older brothers do also and 1 is a HP expert. So he has gotten into it and its a book we read together, and its helping his reading skills a lot. Also I have the books on cd so that they can listen to them instead of reading them, like on car trips and that has helped also.

The Magic School bus is a good book series. My son likes it also. He loves the book Where the Wild Things Are. Alexander, the terrible bad day is a book he likes also. As well as Curious george. When ever we head into the big city, we always stop at the Barnes and Noble and the boys and I look at books and mags. Normally we each get a book or if not we find several we want and then do an Amazon or half.com order and get us all some books.

As far as knights, here are a few suggestions my boys have liked:

Knight and the dragon
Bravest KnightMaking of a knight
Genuine and Moste Authenic Guide: Knight
Castle: Mideveil days and knights

As they get older they might also like the Star Wars Young Jedi series. Several of my boys really enjoy them as well.

Hope this helps. Have a good one.

One thing we done since I started doing fostercare many years ago, is at night after they all are changed we have some quiet time and then I put each to bed. Often I will read to or with him and then tuck him in (not my 16 yr old but the rest I still tuck in). It helps to get them to sleep, and keeps the bond we have. But it helps them unwind a bit too. And the normal routine also helps them as well as cuts down any complaints about their diapers for bed or wanting to stay up later, needing a drink of water, and all the other excuses I have heard over the years when they want to try to stay up later but know its bed time. I have done this for many many years, and have found it works wonders.

Also reading with your kids, helps keep them into reading. Even if its juse some reading time, where you read your book, and they read thiers, but also set some time when you can all read together or you can read with them one to one. Its a great bond that will keep the family closer as they grow up.

What specific books would you recommend for a 4 year old?

Mom of One

Those of you that have toddler or toddler grandchildren, what are some of their favorite books? My daughter loves the Sandra Boynton series, but I think she's getting too old for them. What would you specifically recommend for a 4 year old?
