My neice is having a birthday and she will be 9. She's very bright. She enjoys reading about all subjects. I'd like to get her a collection of great books. Could you please give me a list of books that inspire imagination, and stimulate the mind of a young person. She's not a super frilly girl. She loves science, math, computers, and painting. I'd love to see some suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Get her the Bobbsey Twin collection. They are old, but they are so much fun to read, and a classic she can keep forever! I was about 9 when my mom got them for me for Christmas....14 years ago. :) Loved them.

What are some good books for a 9 year old girl?
Presto!
Could anyone please give me list of appropriate books for a 8 (turning 9) year-old girl. Any books for a very avid reader, preferably fiction and fantasy. (She has read the whole Harry Potter series)
Thanks!
Answer
Age doesn't really matter, it all depends on her reading level. However, if she is nine and has read the whole Harry Potter series, I would say she's pretty advanced as the last few books are written for an older audience.
Some good books for a child her age would be:
"Black Book of Secrets" and "The Bone Magican" by F.E Higgins.
The Spook Series, by Joseph Delaney.
(Although I'm not sure if those books might be a little to creepy for a young girl..)
The Atemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer,
The Land of Elyon books by Patrick Carmen and
The SpiderWick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi.
Most of those books are pretty popular, but that's because they're good.
If I were you, please don't make the mistake of getting her a book that will be too difficult for a 9year old girl, that will just put her off reading completely. Contrary to what the first answers says, such books like The Lord of The Rings series, might be books she won't like. They're pretty dense books and a little hard to get into, so I don't imagine a 9year old liking them too much.
