Where did the rich people in Paris live during the Renaissance?

confused

I'm writing a story set in Renaissance Paris and I need to know where the really rich lived.

Answer
During the Renaissance, many of the nobles had town houses (hotels) in the Marais. Also Rue St Antoine. There are buildings there older than that, too.

In the first half of the 1500s the population of Paris nearly doubled, reaching 250,000 to 300,000 at midcentury. The number of residents fell in the 1560s and 1590s during times of war, but recovered during periods of peace. Most people lived in the crowded city center. However, buildings sprawled beyond the city walls despite repeated bans on construction. Royal officials erected large townhouses on the right bank of the river Seine away from the city center. The first signs of Renaissance architecture in Paris appeared in this neighborhood. The left bank of the river contained the city's printing shops, the University of Paris, and religious buildings.

Answer
Book: Phantom of the Opera - Gaston Leroux
Theme: "Beauty and the Beast" - forbidden love sacrificed for a greater good
Main Characters: Erik, the phantom, Christine, the young soprano he falls in love with, and her lover, Raoul
Setting: Paris Opera House
Supporting Characters: Madame Giry the ballet mistress, her daughter Meg, the Persian, Carlotta, the opera's previous prima donna, the opera managers Firmin and Andre
Problem: Erik terrorizes the opera house in order to make Christine famous and murders whomever stands in his way of having Christine for a wife.
Ending: Erik relinquishes Christine to Raoul because as they say "If you love someone, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were." Clearly, Erik and Christine's love was not meant to be.
My favorite part: Raoul making a Herculean effort to rescue Christine from the lair and the lovers promising their loyalty no matter what happens despite Erik's torment.â¥
