Answer
My favorite book on mediation is "Meditation" by Sogyal Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist Lama. http://www.amazon.com/Meditation-Little-...
The book is compact (about three inches square), and fairly short/thin, so in some ways, it is a quick/easy read.
However, given the nature of the topic with all it's subtleties, you will likely find yourself going back to re-read passages to ponder certain points deeper.
Of the many thousand styles of meditation, Sogyal offers concise instruction in three very common techniques: watching the breath; using an object (such as a flame, known by sanskrit word 'trataka' ); and, reciting mantra.
I'm sure you could find more info online on any of those techniques by doing searches such as
- breath meditation
- trataka (or candle) meditation
- meditation mantras
Although Sogyal's book occasionally references Buddhism, you can easily dispense with those comments if you wish, and just glean the material specific to the practice of meditation, still very valuable regardless what belief system you follow.
Best wishes with establishing your meditation practice.

Good books on meditation?
I would like to point out first that, from what I learned so far, that meditation comes from relaxation, contemplation and a negation, but any form of meditation would do. I am curious. Specifically along the lines of Taoism/Buddhism/or Kabballah based. Suggestions?
