Looking for a certain US history book?

02

My history teacher has a little book on US History, and I think it might be called UNITED STATES HISTORY. I've been looking to see who the author(s) is(are) so that I could look it up in my library.
I know the cover has a flag on it.
I'm desperate, and I can't ask her what it is called.
Sorry in advance for the lack of detail, but that is all I know about it.
The flag is kind of enveloping the book, if that makes sense.
It's not so much a picture of a flag, as it is the whole cover being the flag.
I've checked Amazon, but I can't find that particular cover, so maybe there are alternates.
Aghhhh.

This book - A Patriot's History of the United States : From Columbus's Great Discovery to the War on Terror by Larry Schweikart and Michael Patrick Allen - has a picture of the American flag on the cover.

In case this isn't the one, I put in "United States History" in the books section of Amazon and came up with this list of books http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=united+states+history&x=0&y=0

I hope this helps.

***Addition: I have a book called Patriot Hearts by Major William T. Coffey, Jr. which has a picture of the flag around the book, plus a bit of the Declaration on the bottom of the front page. ABE books has a copy http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=920775597&searchurl=an%3Dwilliam%2Bt.%2Bcoffey%252C%2Bjr.%26sts%3Dt%26tn%3Dpatriot%2Bhearts%26x%3D37%26y%3D8 - maybe you could check it out and see if that's it.

History books lie to us?

Chim Pan Z

I hear all the time (mainly from non-whites) that history books are full of lies that are used to benefit the white man. Can you all give me some examples of lies told to us through history. The people that say They are full of lies always seem to forget to give me some examples. Is this just a coincidence or do they just use this as an excuse for their own cultural shortcomings.
@ jozo. You say whites are demonized. How so? What do your history books generally teach you about?

Answer
As the saying goes, "History books are written by the winners."

History books, like any other books, are written by humans, who are prone to interject their biases into the subject matter. Even genuine attempts to remain objective when presenting the matter can be adulterated by an ethnocentrism. I think in the past, this ethnocentrism was much more blatant, but still today, in America, they are still largely colored by the white experience wrapped in a Judeo-Christian perspective.

That being said, if someone makes an accusation (that they are full of lies), it is on them to give an example. Its on you to be open to the idea that there could be a falsehood in the history books. Just keep in mind that sometimes, we, America, are the bad guys in history.

I'll give the example of the Mexican-American War. In American textbooks, the cause of the war is usually credited to the American annexation of Texas. The Mexicans did not like that and in the time that followed, a disagreement arose as to the southern boundry of Texas, Mexico claiming the Nuceus and America the Rio Grande. Somebody fired at someone and boom, we have war. In the textbooks I grew up with, never was there the mention that many Americans thought it was an unjust war. That is was naked, blatant, imperialism. If you look at it honestly, it was a stronger country shamelessly pushing around another one and taking a third of the country away from them. We scored California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico in the deal. You can see today that by viewing it from that perspective, issues like immigration can even be colored today.
