How Can I Publish a Book About Local History?
Patrick
Iâm thinking about stating a book about my townâs history. A full in-depth history of my town from the start to present hasnât been done since 1898. Iâm just wondering how do I go about doing this? If there is any tips you can give me, just leave it below, thanks!

I would definitely say write the book to the best of your abilities before you even consider publishing. Since a lot of places will want you to send off at least an extract.
Once you do come to publishing there are several options to choose from. If you want to publish through a firm you can do a quick search on Google - there are huge amounts of publishers online, but obviously you have to be careful about which ones are legit.
There is an interesting article on publishing here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2010/jan/28/online-publishing-victor-keegan
If you prefer to stay away from the online publishers, then a suggestion I have heard a lot is find books that are similar to the one you have written (in this case, history books about other towns) and write to their publishers about your book. The addresses are usually in the front of most books I think, but if not then it is easy enough to Google for them.
Another completely different option is to self-publish. This is probably what I would choose to do with your book, but obviously it is entirely up to you. When you self-publish you are completely in control of your book, how it looks, how much you sell it for, etc etc. On sites such as lulu.com (there are many more - have a look around the internet to find one that suits you) You can design and create your own book up and have it printed. Once you've printed yourself a few copies you could walk around your local shops and negotiate them selling it for you there. Go everywhere; newsagents, churches, bus stations.... etc. Think of it as a teenager looking for a Saturday job. You never know which one is going to be what you want and it's always the one you least expect.
I'm sure that you will find some co-operation since it is a local based book being sold in a local area. If you really want to go for it, then you could print off some posters and stick them up around the town telling people where the books are available.
I hope this is a bit more helpful than the 'google it' answers I usually get on this site! Good luck!
