What was the strangest / scariest / most disturbing book that you have ever read and why did you find it so unique?

I am Legend by Richard Matheson. Don't go by the movie; the book is completely different.
There were only 3 things in common. One, the name of the main character: Robert Neville. Two, that he was the last guy on Earth. Three, the psychological drama.
But the book was interesting. It was not necessarily scary because the book has maybe two scenes that involve Neville almost being caught by the vampires. But it is definitely strange. The book was written in 1954, so it is so amazing that Matheson could come up with a story like this when the concept of vampires, zombies, and apocalypses were still fairly new. And the ending is great. The ending makes the book like a great legend itself. But I think after you read it, some people might find it a little disturbing because there is a lot of psychological drama in the book too, and since it is written from Neville's point of view, there's a lot of commentary on what's going on inside his mind, so you feel it even more.

I like books with action, romance, and I like it to be about people close to my age which is 14. I also don't feel like reading a book that is too realistic. I have already read twilight, harry potter, the clique, maximum ride, unfortunate events series, the luxe, and I think that's it. So what are some books that are really good for you? oh yeah, I don't want any vampire series recommendations, I have read too much about vampires!

Sucks to be Me by Kimberly Pauley: When sixteen-year-old Mina is forced to take a class to help her decide whether or not to become a vampire like her parents, she also faces a choice between her life-long best friend and the boy she has a crush on versus new friends and possible boyfriends in her mandatory "vampire lessons."
