Could I see The Hobbit film before reading the book?

No Name

I got the book for Xmas, which I was delighted about. But by the time I finish the book the film might be out of the cinema and I REALLY would like to see it at the cinema, especially for this whole 48fps thing. Would not be the same if I wait for the DVD.

I mean I watched the LOTR without reading the books, because I was too young for the books, but might try them again soon.
But for The Hobbit could I just leave it till afterwards, or should I read up until the same ending the film has, since its the one book split into three.
I heard somewhere the first film finishes up to the Elves, I think? Which page would that be on?

Thanks for ur help.

Answer
My gut response is to just read the book. I mean, like straightaway! What you will see in the cinema is a very different experience. I wish I could just say "Read up to page 90, and that's what you'll see on the screen."but the film doesn't follow the book like that. It has extra detail, and a different perspective.

In my opinion, the real question for you is whether to read the book before or after the film. Whichever you do first is going to affect the way you experience the other. Whichever you choose, I hope you enjoy it!

Answer
what a spoiled guy.
During Deser Storm, I had a disc-man and 11 CDs. We had our imagination and friends to keep us busy when not working

He needs to find himself something to do, not you.
