Answer
If I were you, I would have finished it right when I got out of school, that way I can get to enjoy my summer without worrying about anything.

What are some good books that I can read?

I recently reread the Great Gatsby and I'm wondering what books should I read. I am interested in William Faulkner, but maybe there are some other books that I can read. Another book that I want to read is the Red Badge of Courage.

Answer
Faulkner's books and The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane are amazing. You should certianly read them. Following is a list I compiled of books that have a similar literary status as The Great Gatsby:

H.G. Wells--The Invisible Man, The War of the Worlds
Franz Kafka--The Trial, The Metamorphosis
Jane Austen--Pride and Prejudice
James Joyce--Dubliners, Ulysses, Finnegan's Wake
Sinclair Lewis--Arrowsmith, Main Street
Alexandre Dumas--The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers
Leo Tolstoy--War and Peace
Fyodor Dostoyevsky--Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov
Mark Twain--The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Jules Verne--20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Oscar Wilde--The Picture of Dorian Gray
Lewis Carroll--Alice in Wonderland
Homer--The Iliad, The Odyssey
Vrigil--The Aeneid
Apuleius--The Golden ***
Robert Louis Stevenson--Treasure Island, The Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
James Fernimore Cooper--The Last of the Mohicans, the Deerslayer
Edith Wharton--Age of Innocence
Arthur Conan Doyle--Sherlock Holmes
Jack Kerouac--On the Road
John Steinbeck--Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden
Kurt Vonnegut--Slaughterhouse Five, Cat's Cradle, Player Piano, Breakfast of Champions
Hunter S. Thompson--Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Ayn Rand--Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead
Ray Bradbury--Fahrenheit 451
Thomas Pynchon--Gravity's Rainbow, The Crying of Lot 49
Aldous Huxley--Brave New World
Ernest Hemingway--For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Old Man and the Sea, A Farewell to Arms
Albert Camus--The Stranger

If you're thinking about reading 1984, I'd recommend Brave New World instead. It's similar, but it was written earlier and it's more applicable to modern society.
