Is there any source out there that is nationally recognized and reliable that gives a list of the greatest books ever written? Not just some NY Times author's top 10 list! Please include a link if you can!

Any website isn`t likely to be 110% reliable, but BBC has named 100 of most well-known books (on the link above)... :)

Christians and atheists alike, What is wrong with considering the bible as a literary work?
Dirt
I do not believe that God is real.
But what is wrong with considering the bible as a literary work. A work that should be read by people. (I never said it was a great literary work, or that it is the greatest book ever written - it is not.) I just believe there is some value in it to know about the stories in it, just as it is important to know some of the stories of the Greeks, Romans, Ancient mythology and folklore,... Like it or not it is a part of our past.
I do not believe that people would get brainwashed by just reading it. The same as I do not believe there are three christmas spirits after reading Dickens. The same as I do not believe there is a school for wizards in the clouds like in HP books. Or that animals used to talk like in Fontaine's tales.

There's a moral in To Kill a Mockingbird too. See my point?
