What books would you say someone has to read to be considered well read?

I'm just looking for ideas of books to read and I'm curious about other people's must reads, whether it's considered classical literature or modern fiction.

What is a better way to write a paper about two books?

Its a research paper and my topic combines two books and how the main characters have a similar force to fight but one character succeeds and the other fails. I don't want it to be a simple compare and contrast format if i can help it. is there a better way to weave the texts together?
