Who do you think is the most evil man or woman in history?
I've been reading this great book called "The Most Evil Men and Women In History", by Miranda Twiss. It's actually a good, easy read. In it, they've got about a dozen people who have done some insane things in their lifetime, including the usuals, like Hitler, and Stalin, but they have some others, like Vlad 'Dracula', Attila the Hun, and Idi Amin.
So, in your opinion (not counting Hitler or Stalin) who do you think was the most evil man or women in history? Anyone not many of us know of?
Answer
You know, it has probably got to be whoever was inside the "Barney" costume on that kids show. Whoever thought that little kids would love a gigantic purple dinosaur was a moron. That thing was a nightmare.
But in all honesty I think it is Maximilian Robespierre.
In case you arenât familiar with the name I will explain. Robespierre was the leader of the original French revolution, the one with Mary Antoinette and all that. The thing that I think makes him the most evil man in history is the slaughter of the prisoners that occurred under his orders and later in life the murderous betrayal of his best friend.
One night towards the beginning of the revolution Robespierre spoke with his friend, Georges Danton, and convinced him that the prisoners they had captured were traitors and did not deserve a proper trial. With this idea in mind the two of them riled up the mob and stormed the prison, ruthlessly killing every living thing within its walls. This included women and small children who had been arrested.
Later on, Robespierre becomes head of the government and leads the cry for more blood which could never be appeased. He becomes super paranoid of Danton and denounces him as an enemy of the revolution. By this time that was a death sentence and those were carried out mercilessly by the guillotine.
Near the end of the revolution however, Robespierre gets a violent taste of his own medicine. After declaring that Christianity is the root of all evil and proclaiming himself a god, the people finally realize that they had made a mistake. Robespierre secured his own death when he threatened to read a list of French legislative officials whom he had deemed to be traitors. They are all afraid of being accused so they put him to death instead.
The most depressing part about the French Revolution though, was that they didnât really achieve anything. Despite all that trouble it only took a few years for Napoleon to step in and become emperor.
