Angelique
The reader is a male and reads between a 4th and 3rd grade reading level. He does not like to read, so he has no preference in genre at this point.
Answer
Frindle and Warriors are not appropriate books for the reading level you mentioned, although they are popular for that age level. (I'm a 5th grade Reading teacher.)
I would say:
A Boy in the Girl's Bathroom by Louis Sachar
Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine (he'll like those at least)
Magic Tree House
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Start on those and see how he does. Also if you want something to read to him, Knucklehead by John Scieszka is a GREAT book for struggling boy readers. It's is a hilariously funny book, the chapters are very short (2-3 pages) and is a great book for hooking a kid into reading. Good luck!
