i have an 8 year old little brother with similar interests and last year for christmas i gave him "the dangerous book for boys" by conn and hal iggulden...He absolutely loves it!(and he's generally not too fond of reading) it covers topics like how to build a tree house, make perfect paper airplanes, construct a battery, and other fun, useful skills. In addition, it contains information about history, geography, sports, etc. It's multimedia format includes drawings, diagrams, and photos, and boys can go online and print activity badges and certificates after completion of activities from the book.

My brother loves to read but I can't seem to find him a book series, do you have one?
Answer
Apart from the obvious - Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling - I would have to go with A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.
Harry Potter
- 7 books;
- start out easy for children to read but become gradually more adult-level-reading because original fans of the series would have grown older as the books were being published
- while humorous and fun, they are well written and also deal with deep issues
- despite what some people might say, the books also teach good moral values such as the importance of love
A Series of Unfortunate Events
- 13 books, as well as The Beatrice Letters and The Unauthorized Autobiography
- each book is the same reading level, which is about 9-12 years of age
- again, these books are humorous and fun, but also deal with some deep issues
- some like that the books teach children words and expressions that they would not normally know
- the humour might be considered "dark", but I found that the dark humour helped me get through a time when I was going through a very unfortunate event myself ... I will always love the books for that
