Answer
Oh HELL! It is NOT Twilight, don't you dare suggest that spawn of Meyer even comes close! I understand you were joking, but seriously, that just gives the Twihards something to troll us about, and when they realize it was fake, they start flaming us even harder.
It comes down to Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland (and sequels), etc. But if one were to take many of published literary works not made into books in their time (e.g., The Iliad, The Odyssey, etc.), one would include the works of Homer, Shakespeare, The Tale of Genji, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Beowulf, The Legends of King Arthur, and many oral-tradition tales.
Overall, in terms of the single, greatest story ever told, I think it has to be Harry Potter. It says something when just one series about a boy becoming a wizard 1) makes reading cool again in a generation enthralled by the video game, 2) starts the largest surge of authors in a genre ever recorded, let alone two genres (those being the Children's and Young Adult/Teen genres), 3) is one of the few series with characters that keep you guessing right to the end, is full of such great plot twists, and has so many Chekhov's Guns, it caused us all to read it to the minute detail to see "What could be a Chekhov's Gun next?"
In terms of the most influential story in history, I give that honor to the Lord of the Rings. It is to books as Star Wars is to movies. It changed them forever, plain and simple.

Help remembering book name?
LMai
I remember reading a book a while back but can't really remember the title or the author. I THINK it was called 'Enchanted'. It was about this boy who can remember his past lives every time he is born, as well as remembering how he died in each of his lives. The point being that only him and a few others in the world can retain their memories from other lives, but other people in the world (everyone has past lives) cannot remember them. In his 'first' life he fell in love with a girl as her house was burning down. Then in each of his later lives he meets this girl but she doesn't remember him so he tries to talk about things she has done in her past lives to try and trigger her memory. Basically in the end, she does remember him. HOWEVER, this book was meant to be the first in a trilogy, so I wanted to see if the author had written the next book in the series. If anyone has any ideas I would be truly grateful!
Thank you in advance!

My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares
"Lucy feels a strange connection to the mysterious Daniel, a young man who joined her high school class for their senior year. Daniel completely ignores her, though, no matter what she does. Until the end of the school year, when Lucy and Daniel find themselves alone together in a classroom, where he starts talking about remembering something and calling Lucy Sophia.
Although it seems that he has been ignoring her, Daniel thinks about almost nothing besides Lucy. Not only does he think about her, he remembers her. He remembers the first time he saw her, thousands of years ago, and every time theyâve come in contact in the years and lives since then. Daniel is one of the rare people who actually remembers what has come before from life to life. Not only that, but he has the ability to recognize other souls from body to body, which is how he knows the soul which is now Lucy throughout the millennia.
âMy Name is Memoryâ is the first in a new trilogy from Ann Brashares. I have to say, Iâve been having a lot of trouble with the first book in trilogies lately. This one followed much the same pattern. Donât get me wrong, this is a very good book. Daniel and Lucy are both complex and compelling characters, and the plot is very inventive and kept me interested. It is just that the first half of the book is a bit of a slow start. This really isnât surprising, since it is setting up three books worth of plot. Towards the end of the book, though, the pace really picks up. By the end of the book, I couldnât wait until the next book in the series comes out. I will be reading the rest of this trilogy, without question; I cannot wait to see where Brashares takes Daniel and Lucyâs story."

"Daniel has spent centuries falling in love with the same girl. Life after life, crossing continents and dynasties, he and Sophia (despite her changing name and form) have been drawn together-and he remembers it all. For all the times that he and Sophia have been connected throughout history, they have also been torn painfully, fatally, apart. But just when Sophia (now "Lucy" in the present) finally awakens to the secret of their shared past, the mysterious force that has always separated them reappears. Ultimately, they must come to understand what stands in the way of their love if they are ever to spend a lifetime "
