Q. For philosophy class we have to focus on two philosophers. I chose Colin Chapman but I need another one, preferably Japanese. Any recommendations?
Answer
You may want to consider Chie Nakane who wrote quite a famous book about "amae" in Japanese.

Best Japanese Study Books?
Rob
Ok so there have probably been posts about this in the past but thats the problem, they are in the past. I need to know the best books for self studying Japanese. I was recommended the Genki book series and Remembering the Kanji 1&2, and Remembering the Kana. If you have any goods books that helped you learn Japanese efficiently let me know, college or school books will be the best due to the frequency of version updates.
Thanks

Hello Robert, The best Japanese study books that I've seen are:
Japanese Demystified by Eriko Sato - This is a great self-teaching guide for learning Japanese. It begins with a review of Japanese writing systems, basic pronunciation, and everyday expressions. The book covers key grammar fundamentals such as particles, nouns, verb forms and honorifics. It will help you build your vocabulary with essential words and phrases.

An Introduction to Modern Japanese by Osamu Mizutani & Nobuko Mizutani - This book is designed to give the reader a solid foundation in modern Japanese, sufficient to handle everyday conversations and discussions as well as the ability to express their interests and life.
After studying this book you will be able to read all of the hiragana and katakana, recognise a lot of basic words in kanji, and have a good knowledge of grammar.
