Great Books for Teens?

Why me?

Well that's my question. But I have certain tastes in books, some books I do not like are Eragon, Twilight, not any of those books that include mythical creature, please don't insult be because I'm not into those types of books.

Some books I've read and liked are The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, Behind the Bedroom Wall, 13, and others like those.
I am also not into Harry Potter... Sorry I'm just not into those kinds of books...

Answer
Vampire Academy by Rachelle Mead.

I enjoy the series because they are full of adenture and mystery. The first book "Vampire Academy" is mainly about Rose Hathaway and her time at St. Vladimir's Academy, a vampire boarding school. Pure Gothic!

The book has two sequels Frostbite and Shadow Kiss.

Rose and Lissa are best friends who share an unimaginable bond, even by vampire standards. Now, after time spent on the run, they have been returned to the school from which they escaped to face ridicule, speculation, and danger.

Welcome to St. Vladimir's Academy, a private high school for vampires and the half-bloods who are bound to protect them. The Moroi are vampires, and the descendants of Moroi royalty are the social elite of St. Vladimir's. The Moroi are at constant risk, though. The Strigoi, the fiercest vampires, are out to get them, any way they can. The Moroi are protected by Dhampirs, guardians who are sworn to lay down their lives to assure that the Moroi bloodlines continue.

Rose is a Dhampir and Lissa is the last of the Dragomir line of Moroi royalty. Rose and Lissa share a special bond; one that nearly assures that Rose will be Lissa's guardian for life. Returning to school, however, proves to be more difficult than either of them imagined. The social politics have changed during their absence and Rose and Lissa are both the topic of several rumors. Their sudden disappearance, their time on the run, and their return are all subjects for speculation. In some instances, the truth may cause them more harm than rumors ever could.

In addition to the social pressures, Lissa may be in even more danger than anyone could have imagined. In addition to being Moroi and royalty, Lissa seems to have special abilities that haven't been seen among the Moroi in centuries. Abilities that make her an even more tantalizing target to the Strigoi.

VAMPIRE ACADEMY is a thrilling adventure that draws you along and makes you continue to turn the pages. As the danger to Lissa gets closer, it gets more difficult to put the book down. In a world that seems saturated with vampire books, Richelle Mead has created characters and a world that is both unique and believable.

What are some great books to read?

Strik

I'd like to broaden my reading a bit and am looking for suggestions to some really great books.

Any genre will do except horror. I don't mind sci-fi as long as it's not too deep into the genre. Something exciting and interesting (not a bore to read or takes a long time to get into). I'd like some romance to be in it but the whole thing doesn't have to revolve around it.

I've read the LOTR trilogy, the Harry Potter series, Ella Enchanted, Tuck Everlasting, Twilight, the Martian Chronicles, a few books by Robert Heinlein and some others. They don't have to necessarily be fantasy or anything, I just thought I'd include things I've already read.

So any book/genre will do. Thanks to everyone for any suggestions you can give!

Also, if you could tell me very briefly what the book's about without giving anything away, that would be great.

Answer
-Scott Westerfeld.
-Francesca Lia Block and Melissa Marr (it's sci-fi/fantasy, but darker)
-Gemma Doyle Trilogy
Um...kind of hard to explain. Girls at an all girls school way back in the day can enter in a weird, other-wordly realm. Great ending. Amazing ending, actually.
-Guardians of Time Trilogy
People have powers and are able to travel back in time to create others from changing the past, if that makes since. Not amazing, but entertaining, and pretty sad, but great ending.
-The Book of Lost Things
Absolutely great. One of my favorites. If you like Pan's Labyrinth, you should read it. If you didn't like it, well, you should still read it.
-Narnia, of course. Genius books. (And C.S. Lewis was Tolkien's bff! Wild, huh?)
-A Wrinkle in Time.
It's a classic book, though not as popular as Narnia or LOTR. But it's in my top 5!
-White Oleander but something Fitch
Mind-numbingly amazing. Truly. It's about a girl who is thrown into foster care and deals with suicide, sexual abuse, starvation, and whatnot.
-Anything by Sarah Dessen, Deb Calleti, Maureen Johnson, Sonya Sones.
These are all authors that write young adult fiction about everyday girls and thier lives. Though they usually have romance, the girls deal with other stuff like being overweight, death, and real-life problems.
-Speak
A girl is raped and ostracized by her peers.
-How I Live Now
A girl is sent to her aunt's house over in the London-esqu area. Then things get wild. Incest is involved, and a war. (modern time!)
-Amazing Grace by Megan Shull
Girl gives up her celeb life, sneaks off to Alaska, makes great friends, while keeping her real identity a secret. (I know it sounds like Hannah Montana, but I promise, it's not!;) )
-Amelia Atwater-Rhodes Vampire Series
Great. Creative. Interesting. She wrote each book from a different character's point of view, so you get to see a ton of different perspectives. And she wrote them back in the 90s when she was only 14-18 but they're very mature and not like a teen wrote them.
