I have a literature research paper to write. Basically, I need to pick an american literature book that has to do with the time period that it was written in. Also, I need to write about why the author decided to write it. I have a list of books, I'm just not sure which one is the best choice. I'd appreciate some help lol:
The Kite Runner
A Thousand Splendid Suns
East of Eden
The Great Gasby
The world according to Garp
Where the heart is
Treasure Island
Slaughterhouse 5
Gone with the Wind
The Grapes of Wrath
To the Lighthouse
Revolutionary Road
A Farewell to Arms
Tender is the Night
Huckleberry Finn/Tom Sawyer
If you read any of these books, did you like them?
Do you know the reason why the author wrote it, if he experienced something similar in his lifetime?
Which one do you suggest I read? (especially one that is greatly affected by the time period that it takes place in.)
I'm open to other suggestions...
Thanks soooooo much. =) God Bless.
Answer
The Kite Runner is a recent book that is about Iraq and they have made a movie of it. It is a very serious piece. Sad.
The Great Gasby is one of my all time favorite books. Is back in the 40's? I forget era but it was cool clothes it was showing the rich and new rich. interesting. I think you would like it. old movie made of it too with Robert Redford. could find it on DVD. cool clothes.
Garp is a funky book. Different if you like off beat. Liked this book a whole lot. It is about crazy people. Movie made with Robin Williams.
Treasure Island is a great classic. IF you like pirates and adventure. Easy read and fun. Several movies made of this over the years.
Slaughterhouse 5 another one of my favorite books. Sci fiction and another funky book.
Gone With the Wind - Famous Civil War Book... author did not live in the time. book is soooo much better than the movie. the movie does not come close to the book. Not even close. The book is very good, easy to read because the characters are good and the story is great.
The Grapes of Wrath is good but depressing. The Great Depression book. Good writer and good story but not a happy story.
Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer are not my favorite. I did not like how he writes. I know everyone else does, but I do not. I found it hard to read. He writes how they talk.... so I found this hard to read. it is also geared to boys... and I am not into their adventure. I would pick Treasure Island over Tom Sawyer...
Okay, that is my two bits... I think you should do your own homework though....

What are some great books of the American Literature?
Hii
I'm in 8th grade and read at a 11th reading level currently and would like to expand my knowledge and vocabulary more. What are some famous authors or books that are good for me to read at my level? I know Mark Twain and a few other. I enjoy classics like the Time Machine. What are some books you would recommend for me to read over the break? Thanks,
