What's a great vampire book?

Dante Vale

Id really like some great recommendations from books you've read.

Answer
The Radley's by Matt Haig was pretty good. He said there was supposed to be a sequel, but it's been a few years since the book was released.

The Oath was okay. the series title is called The Vampire's President.

Evolve: The New Undead was a great book of vampire short stories and they were some very original take on vampires. If you can't tell from the title, the book features stories about new breeds (evolved) of vampires, and not those with old, archaic traits of the past. I highly recommend this if you like the new breed of vampires and you like original takes on them, and you like reading short stories.

If you like Steampunk vampires then you might want to check out the Vampire Empire series (the gray frair is the first book)

Dracula sucks. I think you're better off reading up on some of the vampire folklore that Dracula is based on, or perhaps reading some of the vampire stories that were written before Stoker wrote his book. And it's funny that people think Dracula is the so-called original vampire. Stoker did not create vampires, they come from folklore and there were vampire stories written decades before Stoker wrote his novel. Dracula, however, is the most famous vampire but not nearly the 'original'.

Great vampire Books please?

Besides the twilight series

All of L.J. Smith's Novels:
http://www.ljanesmith.net/booklist.php (I especially recommend the NightWorld, the Vampires Diaries, and Secret Circle series if you liked Twilight. You got vampires, witches, dragons, the soulmate concept, Wild Powers, etc. AND, the CW is making a show based on TVDs for the Fall lineup: http://www.vampire-diaries.net/ (has everything you need to know.))

Sunshine by Robin McKinley
http://www.amazon.com/Sunshine-Robin-McK... (This is...different. Certainly mature. It took me a while to finish, but it has grown on me. The author has an interesting writing style, and the take on the world is new).

Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
http://www.amazon.com/gp/series/93423/re... (I have only read the first one, but I REALLY liked it. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest--I think its my second favorite series after L.J. Smith's NightWorld series.)

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
http://www.amazon.com/Historian-Elizabeth-Kostova/dp/0316067946/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245114867&sr=1-2 (This is a good book. Mixes history and travel with old fashioned vampire lore, and has an interesting way of going about it. It's a rather large book (Harry Potter large) so does get a little boring in parts, but the author is very good with her details, and the story will draw you in. Rereading it right now.)

Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
http://www.amazon.com/Let-Right-John-Ajvide-Lindqvist/dp/0312355297/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245115503&sr=1-1 (SPOOKY. I haven't finished reading it yet--yes, reading two books at the same time--but I'm nearly finished, and...well, its much darker than Twilight, deals with a bullied teenage boy, murders, drugs, etc, and a vampire, and what happens because of that vampire. Certainly more mature than Twilight).

Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde
http://www.amazon.com/Companions-Night-V... (If I remember right, this was one of the first vampire novels I ever read. It's got a little bit of everything: murder, vampires, love interest, kidnapping, etc. It's a quick read, but good.)

Hope you enjoy these! :)
