Blindness by Saramago
If I could have written any book it would've been this one. Is like everything I believe about politics and human nature in one book.
Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
Ever after reading this book, I basically stopped swearing (or tried to do so) and for the first time in my life put in some effort into talking properly no matter the language.
Plus Toole was just grand and died single, unemployed and broke. His work remained unpublished and unknown to anyone except his mom and a couple lame publishers who turned it down long after his suicide. (And don't even start me with the movie.. so many shitty books are made into movies but no one wants to finance this?).
Tristessa by Jack Kerouac
Another book that will give me peace of mind when I die single, unemployed and broke.
The Thought Gang by Tibor Fischer
If you happen to be a sadist you should become a philosopher first. That's not what the book is about but somehow I draw that conclusion after reading it. Also I find unfair that is not better known.
In Cold Blood by Capote
I read this book pretty young and my fixation with real criminals and why do they do what they do kicked off from there. Countless hours following links in Wikipedia reading about psychos and any kind of interesting people pages wouldn't have been spent in this manner have I not find this book.

Hello, I am looking for amazing books to read. I want to read YA books, so list any cool fantasy/romance/etc. kind of books, as well as I want to read more of a reality kind of book within YA... for example the book called, "The Help" books like this! I love books that were written in the 40's era, or medieval times as well! I am not looking for "Classics" such as Wuthering Heights, Pride & Predjuice etc. I am looking for a modern day books, but that are told in the past, or present or future.. just good books.
Please list books name with author, and a short description about it! Best list i will give u 10 points for helping me out thanks !!!! I am 18 by the way

Wish You Well by David Baldacci, it's a great read about two siblings losing their father to a car accident. In the same accident the mother fell unconcious, and the siblings are forced to live in the Virginia mountains with their great grandmother (or so I think). Set in an era where Wizard of Oz just came out, it was a time of both revolutionary technology and classic, agricultural living.
North River by Pete Hamill, it's a book about a grandpa who finds his grandson abondoned in his front steps. It's a very detailed and great book that is set in New York after the depression.
Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell, I guess you can call this one of the boring classics - but it's one of my FAVORITE books. Scarlett is sucha tough girl and every character seems to be alive. Set in the south when cotton plantations were prominant, a young girl goes through a war and learns to survive and live a scandalous life.
Kite Runner by Kahled Hosseini. It's about an afghan boy who reminiscents his life before afghanistan was occupied by the Talibans. It's very grotesque sometimes, but it's a good shock and brings an awareness to you surroundings.
Big Stone Gap by Adrianna Trigianni. It's about a middle-aged woman who tries to find love and finds it in a small town. It's not a typical, cheesy love story - it's very vivid and you feel like you want to go to that small city because it's just so wonderful. again, one of my FAVORITE books.
