I remember reading this book back in about 4th grade. It was about a European Father and Son who settle in the wilderness and are trying to survive out there and one day the father has to leave or dies or something and the kid stays and tries to make it on his own even though its tough and their are Native Americans around. He runs into trouble and ends up getting help from the Native American boy and the boy teaches him how to survive in the wild. I remember watching the movie 4th grade too. I've looked everywhere and haven't been able to even get close...thanks for any suggestions!

The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare
"When his father returns East to collect the rest of the family, 13-year-old Matt is left alone to guard his family's newly built homestead. One day, Matt is brutally stung when he robs a bee tree for honey. He returns to consciousness to discover that his many stings have been treated by an old Native American and his grandson. Matt offers his only book as thanks, but the old man instead asks Matt to teach his grandson Attean to read. Both boys are suspicious, but Attean comes each day for his lesson. In the mornings, Matt tries to entice Attean with tales from Robinson Crusoe, while in the afternoons, Attean teaches Matt about wilderness survival and Native American culture. The boys become friends in spite of themselves, and their inevitable parting is a moving tribute to the ability of shared experience to overcome prejudice"

is this book appropriate for a 4th grade class? 'Hitler's Daughter'?
Q. theres a bunch of books in my class [im in 4th grade] and im reading this one called "Hitler's Daughter" it has words like... "jews","racism" and i was wondering is it an appropriate book to me in a 4th grade class?
Answer
A fourth grader should read the books that speak the reality about Hitler,
should know the truth about what the Holocaust is, should know the meaning of
the word " racism"
But I think should stay away from the dark clouds included in the book "Hitler's Daughter's
My reasons? a 4th grader NEEDS more information, more history knowledge, a more
clear and solid understandings of what went on during Hitler's life before grasping such
intricate threads of darkness of that book. My answer would be "NO".
