Is there a book that explains yoga completely?

conundrum

I'm looking for a book that covers all the different aspects of yoga as well as all the types of yoga. I just started doing what I think is called Astanga yoga. I am so confused though because there are so many different words to remember and different types of yoga (ie. plasha yoga, asana, and I can't remember all the rest). I want something like an encyclopedia of yoga, so that I can learn about the philosophy, the types of yoga, the meanings of all the words, the history, the poses, the mantras, etc. I don't want a book that focuses on just one type of yoga or on just one aspect of yoga. There are plenty of those. It's like a wild goose chase trying to find the essential stuff to read. Is there a book that covers all of the yogas?

Answer
There will never be a book that completely explains yoga because it has such a long history. I do use two books, as a beginner, that I highly recommend since they cover a ton of poses and series which can be incorporated into your ashtanga yoga program.

The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga
The Sivananda Companion to Yoga: A Complete Guide to the Physical Postures, Breathing Exercises, Diet, Relaxation, and Meditation Techniques of Yoga

You can buy them both together on Amazon.com for about $24 and they're really extensive for a beginner

Summer is beginning and i usually do yoga during the summer. well i was wondering if there are any books for preteens for yoga..and if you have any ideas of what to do daily for yoga.

Answer
I did an Amazon.com search on yoga for teens, and found a good selection of books. This one got some good reviews:
http://www.amazon.com/Breathe-Teens-Mary-Kaye-Chryssicas/dp/0756626617/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213025762&sr=1-1

And here is the list that came up when I searched, take a look and see, there are quite a few books here:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=yoga+for+teens&x=0&y=0

I myself use http://www.yogatoday.com, it's a site that offers a choice of 7 classes per week, 1 hr long each, completely free, and covers all styles of yoga, from beginner to advanced. If you decide to try it, don't be too discouraged or hard on yourself, these teachers on this site are really good, and if you stick with it and keep trying, you'll learn a lot about yoga and your body will feel great.

Another free website with free classes is http://www.yogamazing.com, and he offers shorter classes of about 20 minutes each. His you can download to an ipod if you want to. He is rather chatty, which I found distracting, but you might like him, so give it a shot. :)

Good luck!
