Oshaberi
I want to learn more, but from an "insider's pespective", so to speak. ;3 Any suggestions? Also, what's a good translation of the sacred texts?
Answer
Read the lectures and books of Swami Vivekananda. He was a Hindu monk who traveled in the United States and England in the late 1800's and spoke perfect English. He began his travels at the Parliament of Religions where preachers from every religion were invited to speak. The crowds so adored the young Vivekananda that the organizers of the Parliament had to schedule his speech for last every day so the crowds would stay through the whole thing to hear him.
His was a higher form of Hinduism, Vedanta, which does not dwell on the gods but on the supreme God, and details the way to prepare oneself for a spiritual life.
He was a brilliant writer as well as a speaker.
Study also the works of Patanjali and Shankara, and read the Bhagavad Gita.
