Does anyone know of any businesses or services that I can hire to scan print books into a pdf format, So that they can be read on an e-reader?

well, scanning printed books are not so easy. If there are only a few (about 50-60) pages, you can do it yourself or ask a friend for a printer which can scan (if you don't have one), but you'll get bored easily, and the quality of the scanned pages willl be really bad. I recommand you to try to look for the book on the Internet in pdf format, and download it. If you can handle torrent, it'll be easier.
