can i have a my book made into a movie? and can i act in it?

its my dream to get my book made into a movie. im almost ready to get it published. its a loooong novel though, so it would probably end up being 2 movies, or one movie that is 3 hours long. the main character looks just like me, because she is me. so how would i go about getting it published into a movie? would it be possible for me to act, and maybe even get my friend to act too because shes really important in the book too. don't worry, its not some stupid teen drama.
@ the lone writer: what the f*ck is your problem? if you're going to be a snobby, a**-nosed, b*tch, then don't even bother commenting!

Answer
Worry about getting the book published first.

In theory, any book can be adapted into a movie. In practice, Hollywood studios don't adapt a book unless it's already sold well. (They don't adapt a book because they think it has a better story than something their own writers can come up with. They adapt a book because people have already heard of it.)

Because the movie of the book can't be made without your permission, in theory, you can attach whatever conditions you want. In practice, if you ask for anything more than what authors customarily get (some money and a line in the credits that says "based on the book by..."), the studio will call your bluff and walk away. There are hundreds of books they could choose to adapt - they don't have any emotional attachment to your book in particular.

A movie producer outside Hollywood might conceivably pick up your book without it having to be a mega bestseller, but they're not going to let you and your friend act in it, unless you can convince them that you'd be better in the roles than anyone else they might cast.

You could put up the money to make the movie yourself - then you can do whatever you want with it. But don't underestimate how much it will cost to do it properly, and how much time it will take. I've made some small-scale no-budget films, much shorter than two hours, and some of those have taken months.

EDIT: the lone writer said what I was thinking. There's nothing wrong with having big ambitions, but you need to understand what's likely to be involved in realising them. Lose the attitude. There are millions of people writing books, many of whom are better at it than you and haven't got anywhere near where you want to be. The world doesn't care about you or your story - not yet, anyway. Be grateful to anyone who takes the time to offer advice or constructive criticism, even if you think they're complete wankers.

Are their any books that are going to be made into movies?
