Books/DVDs for assassination of JFK?

stu

I'm doing a 6000 word essay and presentation on whether Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone gunman in the JFK assassination, and I'm looking for a good book that discusses the issue. Any ideas?

Thanks :)

Answer
The best books on any history.....are always closest to the time of event...
I'd strongly recommend...'The Day Kennedy Was Shot'...historian Jim Bishop, 1st pub. Funk and Wagnall's (1968)....The assassination was at end of year 1963, the book was researched 1964-66, written in 67' and published in 1968....I consider it.....'1st source'...material....way, way prior and more authentic to any of the.... 'conspiracy theories'... books.
If you want to know what happened from people who were there, from professional historians and actual witnesses on the scene from within 2 years of the event...I'd recommend this book.
Caution: The 1968 edition of the book....is sometimes graphic in text (there are no photos)....to what our current media is used to now....but it is true to the crime and combat reporting of that period. It thoroughly discusses Oswald and his make up and more.

Books on JFK assassination theories?

Christian

I was watching a show on the history channel which suggested that James Earl Ray(despite what many people may believe) did not kill Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. & if he did, then it's believed he may not have acted alone. Some theories were that parties involved included the Army, the US government(from what I am told, President Hoover had a strong disliking for King because Hoover believed that King was an adulterer & supposedly had tapes to prove it) & the mob. There were even 2 books published about the theories behind Dr. King's assassination.

Are there any books on theories behind the assassination of JFK? If so, can anyone give me any titles?

Answer
You are mixing your subjects pretty well in your question. James Earl Ray was arrested and convicted for the assassination of MLK but in later years had met with the King family who backed his quest for a new trial, which was denied.
J. Edgar Hoover was Director of the FBI until his death in 1973 (?) and had a file on King which detailed his adulterous relationships, particularly with prostitutes in every city he traveled in. Hoover's concern, however, was more in the fact MLK was a communist and had attended a communist training school in Tennessee named The Highlander School.(Still in business.) See the American Opinion website for that info.
In regards to the JFK assassination consult these books:

"The Last Investigation" by Gaeton Fonzi, 1994 Fonzi was involved with the House Select Committee on Assassinations in the 1970's.

"Conspiracy" by Anthony Sutton

"Crossfire: The Plot which killed Kennedy" by Jim Marrs

"Six Seconds in Dallas" by Josiah Thompson, Random House:New York, 1967
"Death of a President" by Wm. Manchester, 1967 will give you a good basic background but it is not accurate in many facts nor theories.

These are the best of them, Six Seconds deals with the facts, not the theories behind it.
Also see Fletcher Proudy's website for more, he was a consultant on the Oliver Stone film, "JFK" which is probably the best wrap up of the assassination available, even though there is artistic license.
I have probably read 15 books on the JFK assassination, and these are the best.
Hope this helps.
