I was wondering what are some the best books about the Vietnam war? I was thinking about picking some up and learning more about it
Answer
Summons of the Trumpet: A History of the Vietnam War from a Military Man's Viewpoint by Dave Richard Palmer
On Strategy: A Critical Analysis of the Vietnam War by Colonel Harry G. Summers Jr.
Why we were in Vietnam by Norman Podhoretz
Secrets of the Vietnam War by fLt. General Phillip B. Davidson
Dirty Little Secrets of the Vietnam War by James F Dunningan and Albert A Nofi
Liberals are going to urge you to read The 10,000 Day War. If you do remember it is a biased anti-American pro-Communist piece of propaganda.

Hi. I am interested in the vietnam war.
There are many books on it. However, many of these books are also personal accounts, I dont want to read a personal account, not because they are not interesting, but because I fear they may not give me the overcview and at least reasonable objectivity that I am looking for.
Can someone please tell me a book which places vietnam in a historical context, explains the facts, figures, politics, conditions, as well as the aftermath and effects of that.
ie comprehensive?
thanks!
