Why is the book "The Host" by Stephanie Meyered classified as reading level grade 4?

I mean a good reason why. I read it and it wasn't very easy actually, for me. But I've read The Hunger Games which is reading level 7 and Harry Potter which is 6, and Divergent, level 9. And they were very easy for me to read and understand from the beginning. But not The Host. So I was wondering, why was it given a level of grade 4?

Answer
Machines count the number of words in sentences and they check vocabulary.

And publishers sometimes present "easy" pages to the machine to get a lower reading level.

I fought with my assistant superintendent who put copies of Handmaid's Tale in our middle school. It was classified as 5th grade reading level. Obviously it isn't.

what are some good books for my little sister to read? she is 9 and in 4th grade and has a low reading level?

at that age( and around then) i loved the Animal ark books, by.. i think the name was bagilo.
i also loved matlida, and a series of books called " jigsaw jones' about a detective kid...
also, the 'princess school' books are good- the first is ' if the shoe fits' but for the life of me i forget the author.

i also recall loving the 'pony pals' books as well as all of the ' america girl' books. i recomend those, because they are short, fun, and can help your sis also get into history!

around 3rd grade i also found the 'babysiters little sister' books, and loved them, and i first got into fantasy.
i read every bruce coville book i could find- my favorite was ' into the land of the unicorn.'

i hope these help. i read them from 2nd grade up, but i was a bit advanced in reading.
still, she should find these fun, and please, don't hesitate to email me, if you'd like a better list, if you'll tell me what she likes i can get one to you.
