Top ten books ever written?

Ateeb da f

I am on a mission to read 52 non fiction books in the next 52 weeks. What book/books would you guys suggest and why? I wanna read books with insights, inspiration etc
Thanks in advance!

Answer
Good question! I'll list the ones I'vr read and enjoyed versus the ones scholars consider great.

1. The Poisonwood Bible (Barbara Kingsolver): For some of the best first person narration; this story will show you the value of life and great writing.
2. Persuasion (Jane Austen): I know that most people say Pride and Prejudice is the best Austen novel, but for me, it was Persuasion. It's a short book, but filled with a good story, terrific writing, and in my opinion, good insight into a woman's mind.
3. Jane Eyre (Emily Bronte): A haunting love story, this book is a classic, and I highly recommend it.
4. Angela's Ashes (Frank McCourt): This is the first book of McCourt's autobiography ('Tis and Teacher Man are the second and third books); it is poignant, revealing and a laugh at some parts. And it won a Pulitzer if that's a motivator.
5. To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee): This is a must read; the most concise and influential book I've read in some time, this book is near perfection.
6. The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho): This is more of a book/fable. I highly recommend it because of its simple writing, and its strong message. It will show you why and how to follow your dreams, and keep you engaged the entire time.
7. Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden): Fascinating book about the life of a geisha.
8. Harry Potter (JK Rowling): I don't know if you've read this yet, but I'd recommend the entire series. If you have already read it, read it again; it's an excellent read.
9. Going Postal (Terry Pratchett): The most comedic one so far, Going Postal will make you laugh and wonder at the characters of the world.
10. The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown): I'm actually in the middle of reading this one, but I'd still recommend it. It's fast pace and interesting nature will keep you turning the pages, while you'll also learn a lot.

Happy reading to you!

Greatest book ever written?

Yeah, i realize how it's impossible to choose one because it is about opinion, and is different for everyone, yadayada. So don't bother posting anything if your going to just talk about how pointless and futile it is to select a greatest book.

But what do you think is the greatest book ever? Not, "what is your favorite book?" What is the greatest book? The difference is that you don't have to like the greatest book ever, it doesn't have to entertain you. This should be judged soley on literary value: how well it is written, how it has affected the history of literature.

Only novels. List the greatest, and any runner ups. If you have a best poem, play, non-fiction, post it also.
Harry Potters great. Its probably the 343rd greatest book ever written. But not really number one material.
