I'm looking to buy a friend a photography book, but I know nothing about the medium. I think his cup of tea would be the more arty/abstract end of things, or maybe architecture or portraiture. Any suggestions?

but a book that I have really enjoyed that would make a nice gift is called "The Great LIFE Photographers." The cover price is US$50. It has over 600 pages - mostly all photographic images. It is a very high quality publication.

Agatha Christie is probably considered the greatest by most Americans. Murder on the Orient Express is her most popular I think.
