Has anyone tried the book the Tao of Quitting Smoking by Joe Weaver?

Q. I tried Allen Carr's book and several others, they only helped me until my nerves won over. I have tried Chantix, the patch and wellbutin and it all worked but I hate taking meds. With Chantix, I had horrible dreams and sleep disorders, and it increased my appetite, but now I have horrible constipation, so my doctor look me off. He told me that he had tried everything now it is up to me. He recommended this book, because it is a spiritual approach to quitting smoking and he said he used it and he has been smoke free for two years. I kind of felt like my doctor just gave up on me. Help! I'm also feeling a bit depressed now that I have been weaned off of Chantix.

Hi, I think you may have heard this before, but no book is a cure all. In order to quit you REALLY have to want to. I have read the Tao of Quitting Smoking and it is a great book! The book is helps you on several levels spiritually. Basically the book attempts to get the reader to hate cigarettes and to hate smoking, even if you truly don't believe in your heart. It is kind of like, if you keep on believing that you hate cigarettes, than you will finally begin to hate it. Your mind believes what you feed it. I like the book because it allowed me to understand why I WAS addicted to Nicotine. You pick your quit day with the book and you are allowed to smoke while reading the book. The author give you assignments to do when you smoke. The book is also kind of funny. Amazon.com describes
The Tao of Quitting Smoking as a spiritual guide written in a no-nonsense Dr. Phil-like way complete with homework assignments. Examining every level of the smoking experience, Weaver addresses why people start smoking, the effects of nicotine and other poisons in cigarettes, how to use meditation instead of nicotine, and how to say goodbye permanently to tobacco to become a happy, healthy non-smoker. It isn't a well known book, but recently was mentioned by some star on a talk show, who quit smoking. So, I guess it is getting some recognition. I believe also the book was a self-published book.

Good Luck in your journey to quitting smoking. I have quit for about 6 months and I won't go back. No freaking way!

Any one ever hear for a work book that helps you quit smoking?

I was given this book from my doctors office dont know ifs from the american cancer socity or not...but its a workbook that brings you thru daiily chores on evaluating your smoking working with the chemical addiction and the habit of smoking...example day one...smoke as many as you need to but record in the book time and what you were thinking and feeling...and so on like keep a can of old buts with a bit of water in it and as the days go buy it has you smell it when you want a cigertte...and days go by it has you only smoking a few a day and it slowing lessens your cravings and makes you look at the habit also and has you not smoke at certain times..and so on it worked for me and i can not quit any other way tried them all...but keeps you in track for 10 days and the last day of smoking you only crave one craving a day and its easier that way to end on the 11 th day

There is this book entitled "Stop Smoking In One Hour" and it comes with a CD that you have to listen to. You're supposed to listed to the CD just once .... and never smoke again. The author is Susan Hepburn. It costs US$16.95.

Here are some of what it says at the back of the book:

"Over 90% of Susan Hepburn's clients have found her techniques 100% successful. Now her unique formula is brought to you in this book and CD.

Play the CD once only and become a non-smoker in one hour. You uwill find there are no side-effects, no cravings and no gimmicks. You will feel: No desire for a cigarette. No withdrawal symptoms, no irritability, no uge to snack between meals.

This formula works regardless of how many years you have smoked or how many a day.

This formula is not reliant upon your having the willpower to give up smoking but you DO NEED TO WANT TO GIVE UP. It won't work if you're simply trying because someone else wants you to......."
