LordOFtheM
Right now I'm a sophmore taking world literature and we have to pick a book to read, which can't be American or British.
It can be about anything, I'm always open to reading about new things. Please keep to fiction though.
Any books you would recommend?

If you're gonna read Joyce, start with "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" so you can at least get a handle on his stream-of-consciousness writing style before jumping into the craziness that is "Ulysses". Also, Joyce was Irish; he grew up in Ireland but left after getting disillusioned with Irish politics and religious ideas.
You can also try Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart". Along the African lit vein, try Amos Tutuola's "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts". I loved reading every crazy minute of it.
Try russian literature. It is truly unbelievable. Fyodor Dostoevsky's "The Idiot" or "Notes from the Underground". Tolstoy's classic, "Anna Karenina". Both Anton Chekov and Nikolai Gogol's short stories are magnificent. Try Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich". For something more contemporary, look into Vladimir Nabokov. Don't start with "Lolita" however.
In Indian literature, read Arundhati Roy's "God of Small Things". Read anything by Salman Rushdie, like "Satanic Verses", "Empress of Florence" and my favorite, "Midnight's Children". Have fun reading!

My English teacher assigned me to find and read a book by a non American author. It has to be around 200-250 pages and I'm looking for one that's not super old and hard to read. I want to find an interesting easy to read book. Any titles/good authors woulds be extremely helpful. Thanks!!
