miffy
I am looking for suggestions on books everyone should read in thier lifetime. I want to become better read I guess. Books such as Catcher in the Rye, War and Peace, etc. old and new. Just books that mean something. I really enjoy Edgar Allen Poe and Alice Walker but I am looking for other authors that people should read.
By the way. I am an adult.
Answer
1984 by George Orwell
Animal Farm by George Orwell
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
In my opinion, these are the top ten books that everyone should read sometime in their lifetime.

Of the posts here so far, I can personally vouch for the quality of most of the books posted by Samuel Scott and The Phantom, they've got some great classics listed. I also want to put special emphasis on Plato's Republic (along with his other dialogs, especially Plato's Symposium). You won't be disappointed.

How do I write a great fiction book?
lil_txterm
I am a 16 year old female. I have been wanting to write a great fiction book that everyone that would love to read it. I have the patients to write one and the confidence of taking in all the writers blocks and the emotions, I have been wanting to write one, so if you can help me out on how to write a great book feel free to do so?
Answer
What you have is the "patience" to write one, unless you mean sick people are going to do the writing. :-)
What you need are two basic things: a great idea with fully-developed characters, and great writing skill. A great novel is not just about the story it tells, but about how that story is told.
