What are great books/series for someone interested in Mystery?

I recently gained curiosity for the mystery genre and would like to know what books, series, or authors I should look at to get started.

Also, I know Sherlock Holmes is a universal image for this genre, and I am considering buying his works. Where do I get started with Holmes?

For more contemporary mystery writers, try the Sue Grafton series A is for Alibi, B is for Burglar, etc., the Easy Rawlins series written by Walter Mosley, or books by John Grisham. Note that all of these suggestions are for adults. I want to start a comic book collection, but I got a few problems.

1. What do I need to protect my comic books?
2. What are some great comic book series?
3. Who much is this going to cost me?

1. For comic protection all you need are bags and boards. These cost only a few dollars, and can be ordered online or purchased at any comic store.

2. There are TONS of great comic books out there, it really depends on personal preference.

3. Comics are not expensive for the most part unless you try to collect rare old comics. Back issues can range anywhere from a few cents to a few hundred dollars. With new comics usually about $2.99 to 4.99 per issue.
