He's not overweight or anything. He eats well and is very healthy overall. But he just won't exercise! We'd love to be able to get him out in the fresh air doing stuff but- how? He much prefers to sit inside reading a book or drawing.
How do you get an 8 year old to do some exercise? What are some activities that the whole family could enjoy, that an 8 year old would find fun?

YOU have to get him out of the house.. say "we are all going for a walk outside" or "lets go to the store and you can pick out a bike" and start by getting him excited to get a new bike and then encourage him to ride ouside and sit to watch him or go to the park together.... works for us!

I have an 8 year old who I think is ready for a sex talk. I would like to know if there are any books/DVDs/other resources you all have used that you recommend. Thanks!

I liked the book "It's so Amazing, a book about eggs, sperm, birth babies and families" by Robie Harris.
They gave plenty of information and was a great start to several conversations I had with my daughter.
Note - they do cover topics such as alternate families, HIV, abuse. Some believe that these topics don't belong in the conversation with kids until older.
It was my opinion that this more sensitive topics were handled gently and in a manner that didn't scare my kid or bring up subjects that I thought were inappropriate. But there are certainly others who would disagree with me.
