greatest books non fiction image
120 IQ
I am looking for some really good books, primarily non-fiction, that can help me with my reaking skills and can help me develop a great vocabulary. Also, if you have Critical Reading tips for the SAT, please feel free to tell them. Thanks.
Answer
Buy an SAT prep book. The SAT people put out a very nice one. And then, practice, practice, practice. Time yourself, Read the explanations of what you get wrong. Set aside an 45 minutes to an hour everyday to work on this book. There are also editions of classics with the SAT vocab words highlighted and defined on the same page or in the back of the book. And there are several of silly teenage novels that are built around the SAT words with silly plots. The words are defined on the bottom of the page and there are vocabulary exercises after each chapter of the novel. You can find all these books in the test section where you find the SAT prep books in Borders or Barnes and Noble.

Tessa
I'm trying to write a YA novel about teens during the great depression but I don't want to read other fiction books for research or anything does anyone know any good non fiction books about the time period that I can read?
Answer
Riding the Rails by Errol Lincoln Uys
Children of the Dustbowl by Jerry Stanley
The Dustbowl Through the Lens by Martin Sandler
The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan
Some I read after reading Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse and Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.
